The Sustainable Solution
Business is big on sustainability, but will this concept make a business Green? It is helpful to realize that the best definition for Green is "Health Impact," and that is an important environmental sector. Sustainability is actually about "managing our resources." Although these are complimentary ideas, they are distinct areas of the Greening program for any business.
Going Green has four major challenges. These are called the Four Corners of Environmentalism." Green is for Health impact. Blue is for Sustainable issues of resource management. Red is for the issues of pollution. And Yellow is for the further concern for the preservation of wildlife and wild lands.
With potable water the next pending environmental issue, what are we doing to change the way business does business? EPA says that indoor ir quality is 5 to 6 times worse than outdoor air, and poor indoor air quality is costing business $60 billion a year.
In pollution, there is an aggressive concern for CO2 production, and the plight or polar bears, whales, and rain forest must be put into the equation. The sustainable issue is not the full environmental solution. Putting together a comprehensive Green program is one of the biggest and more rewarding efforts a company can make.
